BENIN CITY — The Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), on Wednesday in Benin City, reconstituted its standing committees under the leadership of the new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Idiaye Yekini.

Under the new arrangement, Speaker Yekini will chair the Standing Committee of the House, while Hon. Atu Osamwonyi, representing Orhionmwon I Constituency, will head the Tenders Board Committee.

Hon. Charity Iguodala, representing Ovia North-East I Constituency, was appointed Chairman of the Public Petitions Committee, while Hon. Andrew Uzamere, representing Ovia North-East II Constituency, will chair the Public Accounts Committee.

Other committees allocated to members include Agriculture and Food Security, Appropriation, Water Resources and Energy, Commerce and Industry, and Judiciary, among others.

The Arts and Tourism Committee, previously headed by former Speaker Blessing Agbebaku, has been assigned to Hon. Eric Okaka, representing Owan East Constituency.

During Wednesday’s plenary, the House also deferred consideration of three bills: the Bendel State Post-Primary Education Edict 1988, the Retirement Age for Magistrates and Customary Presidents Bill, and the Landed Property and Documentation Bill.

Meanwhile, traditional rulers from Akoko-Edo Local Government Area paid a solidarity visit to the newly elected Speaker, Rt. Hon. Idiaye Yekini, who represents Akoko-Edo I Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly.
