Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Lawal said he quit the party because of the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate.

The former SGF said President Bola Tinubu is a better option than Atiku.

He alleged that the ADC presidential primary was manipulated in favour of the former vice president and insisted he would not be part of what he described as Atiku’s “rigging machine” ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

According to Lawal, the outcome of the ADC primary had been predetermined to ensure Atiku secured the party’s ticket.

He also questioned Atiku’s suitability for the presidency, describing the former vice president as incompetent and accusing him of promoting tribal and religious divisions.

Lawal maintained that Atiku should not be allowed anywhere near the nation’s highest office, reiterating his support for Tinubu over the ADC candidate.
