2027: Nigerian Governor Campaign Posters Burnt Down
Campaign posters belonging to Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, were set ablaze by some residents of Kofan Kaura community in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Friday, creating fresh political tension ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The residents were seen in a video circulating online burning the governor’s campaign posters.
They also destroyed flags of the All Progressives Congress and bundles of brooms, which serve as the party’s symbol.
The short video of the incident was accompanied by the statement – “We reject rigging’, ‘We reject imposition.”
The incident has further fueled conversations about Governor Sule’s political future as he prepares to complete his second and constitutionally final term in office.
The governor had previously stated during a television interview that he would not pursue another elective position after leaving Government House.
However, he later joined the contest for the Nasarawa North Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 elections.
His decision attracted mixed reactions from political stakeholders and residents across the state, with supporters and critics expressing differing views on his ambition.
Despite the controversy surrounding his Senate bid, Sule emerged victorious in the APC senatorial primary election for Nasarawa North.
The governor secured 47,393 votes in the exercise, defeating his closest rival, Silas Agara, who polled 2,915 votes.
The outcome confirmed Sule as the party’s candidate for the senatorial seat in the 2027 election.
