US Closes Embassy In Lagos, Abuja
The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced that its Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will not open for business on Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, due to the Eid el-Kabir celebration.
The announcement was made on Wednesday through a message shared by the mission on its official X page. The mission also sent greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and other parts of the world celebrating the Islamic festival.
According to the message, the US Mission wished Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyful celebration filled with good health and happiness during the holiday period and beyond.
The closure affects both the US Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate office in Lagos for the two-day public holiday period.
The Federal Government had earlier declared Wednesday and Thursday as public holidays across the country for the Eid el-Kabir celebration.
The holiday is one of the major Islamic celebrations observed by Muslims worldwide and is marked with prayers, family gatherings and acts of charity.
